N-20 Studio brings together two accessory designers Birgit Peerna and Helen-Mary Vartšun, who studied at the Pallas University Of Applied Sciences. The brand name N-20 comes from the time we were studying. As university was the place that first united us, we decided to continue under that name now as designers.
We are passionate about sustainable design, so we aim to revalue scrap and deadstock leather through our creations. We collaborate with Estonian upholstery and footwear manufacturers, where the leather we use mainly comes from. We believe it is important to maximise the use of leather as a material. As it is a natural material, it will show signs of the animal's life (such as scars), which are usually avoided in production. We feel that the inclusion of such features adds value to the product and highlights the need to maximise the use of leather.
Working with scraps, our products are unique as they differ from each other in colour and surface pattern. Each product is therefore unique and individual. In keeping with sustainable creation, we design and manufacture all of our products locally from the beginning in our studio in Tartu, Estonia. We respect the knowledge of our field, therefore we pay attention to the quality and finish of the products, thus giving new life to scraps through durable and playful accessories.
We are united by plants, which have always been the main source of inspiration for both of us. Thus, floral and leaf motifs often feature in our work. Like plants that come in all kinds of different shades, we tend to be playful and sometimes even naïve in our use of colour to bring joy and energy into everyday life. That's why you'll find very colourful products as well as a little more subdued colour palettes in our creations. But even with the modest colour combinations, You can find a little pop of colour added through a small product detail.
